Chinese five-spice powder, cardamom, and pears make this more intriguing than the usual cranberry sauce.

Time: Preparation 1 hours

Serving: 1 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 c frozen cranberry juice concentrate
  • 0.5 c sugar
  • 3 c pears
  • 12 oz cranberries
  • 1.5 t cardamom
  • 0.5 t Chinese five-spice powder

Preparation

In a heavy saucepan, combine cranberry juice concentrate with sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Turn the heat to high and bring to a boil. Mix in the pears, cranberries, cardamom, and Chinese five-spice powder and simmer until pears are tender and the cranberries burst, about 8 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely, then refrigerate until chilled.

This will keep covered in the refrigerator for up to three days.
