Since its beginning in 2008, Red Barn Family Farms (Appleton, WI) has always been a mission that focuses on the animals that produce the milk for Red Barn’s award-winning cheeses as well as the farmers who care for them. In a world that focuses too often on simply producing more volume of milk for less cost, Red Barn from its inception has been working to sustain small, family run farms that know each animal on their farm by name.

Red Barn was founded in 2008 by Terry Homan (dairy veterinarian and UW Madison alum) and Paula Homan. Terry & Paula were both raised on Midwest dairy farms and have a passion for rural communities. They have a deep respect for the animal husbandry-based heritage of Wisconsin’s dairy industry & regret to see it slowly disappearing. “It’s a rather simple concept”, says Terry, “Find small farms that excel at caring for their animals, and you have the most important ingredient (milk) for making awesome cheese!” You can find a variety of Red Barn cheeses including Cupola, Edun, Heritage Weis & Heritage White Cheddar at all three Willy Street Co-op locations.
